The central government has changed the passport rules, making birth certificates issued by the appropriate authorities the only proof of date of birth for passport applicants born October 1, 2023 or after.
An official note was published this week by affecting the amendment to the Passport Rules of 1980. The new rules will come into force once the amendment is published in the official Gazette, officials said.
Under the new standards, the birth certificates issued by the birth and death registrar, the municipal corporation, or any other authority authorized by the 1969 law on the registration of births and deaths will be accepted as proof of birth for persons born on October 1 or after October 1, 2023.
Other candidates may submit alternative documents, such as a driving license or departure certificates of the school, as proof of date of birth.
